King David: The Gospel’s new King

During my stay in Lagos for an international program, I met a talented gospel young singer. I was so impressed by his talent that I want to present it to you. Let’s discover King David, as his fan use to call him.

Conversation with the Artist:

  • Good morning Dave, tell us who you are and what you do professionally.

« My name is David Bangalie Wise Lamin also known as King David or Wiseman. I am twenty eight and I am from Freetown the  capital city of Sierra Leone. I am a gospel Minister and a Keyboardist. My passion is music and I also love to help people especially children. »

  • How did you start doing what you do with passion now? Tell us about your small beginnings, successes and struggles and how you’ve dealt with challenges.

« I started singing when I was in junior secondary school. I used to listen of songs and mimic them. My first recording in a studio was done in 2004 with my friends the song tittle was “change me style”. The name of our group then was called three wise men. I grow passion for gospel music in 2006 when I became a Christian. The church I gave my life to Christ is called Living Stone Evangelistic Ministry International. I became a member of the choir in 2007 and started playing Keyboard in 2008. Ever since I have been singing in church as a praise and worship singer. My first gospel album was released in 2013 titled “Life of Hope” with 11 songs in the album and my second album in 2016 titled “ Papa u too much” with 8 songs in the album.

The challenge I face is that it is not easy to be a gospel singer in my country because most people don’t support gospel ministers. It is also not easy to raise funds in order to record my songs. I use my salary to pay for my recording. Though it is not easy but I am moving by the grace of God. »

  • What is the state of what you do currently in your country?{Are there any changes?]

« Currently in my country I have been recognize as a gospel minister and been invited to minister in programs and in churches. I have been able to organize gospel musical concerts. »

  • What state do you hope to see what you do in the future?

« In 20 years from now I see my music label becoming one of the biggest gospel label in Africa. I am also working on registering my children foundation this year name “The David Bangalie Foundation. That will be open to help children in terms of education and other basic things in my country. The David Bangalie Company will also be in full operation. This company will also help by creating jobs for youths. »

  • What are you currently doing or thinking of doing to see that state which you aspire for?

« I’m currently working at Plan International Sierra Leone and studying MBA in project management at Njala University Sierra Leone. »

  • . What is your message of motivation or charge to other young people in Africa?

« With God all things are possible and never give up on your dream no matter the challenges, because your wiping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. Also put God first in all you do and don’t forget to give him the praise when you succeed. Stay bless. »
